Hike through the Lagazuoi lake forcella to Lagazuoi lake and rifugio Scotoni mountain hut

This circular hike to the Lagazuoi lake in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park offers, in addition to the enchanting landscape, two other highlights: the Lagazuoi lake gorge framed by high rock faces and the inviting rifugio Scotoni mountain hut.

Route description to Lagazuoi lake and rifugio Scotoni mountain hut

This hike to the Lagazuoi lake starts at the car park or bus stop at Punt de Sciaré between San Cassiano and the Valparola pass.

Here you take the easy hiking trail no. 11, which leads up along the rio Sare river to the Capanna Alpina mountain hut restaurant.

Continuing along hiking trail no. 11, you soon reach a wooden bridge, behind which the trail gradually becomes steeper and narrower. Finally, it winds its way up a fairly steep, stepped ascent through the stone-covered terrain, which is secured with wooden planks.

On the 2,069 m high Col de Locia, a picturesque, backward view of the striking Sella group and the snow-covered Marmolada awaits the hiker.

Now follows the leisurely part of the hike: partly level, partly in a leisurely up and down, you hike through the picturesque high valley situated between the Conturines peak and the Ciampestrin group, on whose meadows delicate alpine flowers flourish.

Finally, on the right side of the path, the narrow hiking trail no. 20B branches off, which at first meanders gently through the enchanting landscape framed by rock faces staggered like a backdrop in the direction of the Forcella dl Masetto (Forcela dl Feudo/Lagazuoiseescharte). But then follows the rather steep ascent through the stone-covered forcella, which marks the highest point of the hike at 2,486 meters above sea level.

From the forcella lago Lagazuoi, the path descends rather steeply through the stone- and scree-strewn, serpentine gully to the shimmering blue-green Lagazuoi lake, which is already visible from above.

After a well-deserved rest on the shores of the fish-rich Lagazuoi lake, surrounded by dense mountain pines, follow hiking trail no . 20 towards the rifugio Scotoni Lagazuoi mountain hut. It first descends through a steep limestone gorge covered with colorful alpine flowers to the popular mountain hut at 1,985 m above sea level.

Behind the inviting rifugio Scotoni mountain hut you hike on the now wide, steeply sloping hiking trail no. 20 to the Capanna Alpina, from where you hike back to the starting point on the already known trail.

Note on the hike Lagazuoi lake

The descent through the forcella to the Lago di Lagazuoi lake requires some surefootedness in view of the steep slopes covered with gravel and stones.
