The hike to the rifugio Scotoni mountain hut begins at the spacious car park at Punt de Sciare, located just before the ascent to passo Valparola.
Here, the gentle hiking trail no. 11, lined with conifers, branches off and becomes trail no. 20 near the Capanna Alpina mountain hut restaurant. Initially almost flat, it winds its way up steeply over gravel slopes covered with larches and flowers towards the rifugio Scotoni mountain hut.
After about an hour of steady hiking, you reach this secluded mountain hut surrounded by the mighty rock faces of the cima del Lago peak, the Fanes peaks and the Scotoni peak.
Amidst the green, almost level alpine meadow, it invites you to a culinary journey through the traditional South Tyrolean cuisine at an altitude of 2,040 meters. Wine lovers can also look forward to a rich selection of exquisite wines.
Incidentally, the peaceful wooden chapel nearby commemorates the many soldiers who gave their lives in the first world war.
The way back from the rifugio Scotoni mountain hut is the same as on the way there. But before that, some people climb to the nearby Lagazuoi lake or to the rifugio Lagazuoi mountain hut on the piccolo Lagazuoi.
