The rifugio Fonda Savio mountain hut is not only the starting point of some popular fixed rope routes (via ferrata), but also a worthwhile hiking destination in its own right. To this idyllically situated mountain hut in the Cadini di Misurina leads a varied circular hike across lake Antorno.

The last climb to the rifugio Fonda Savio mountain hut requires surefootedness and a head for heights

Route description Fonda Savio mountain hut

The ascent to the Fonda Savio mountain hut begins at a small parking lot, located between the lago di Misurina lake and the Antorno lake. Following the trail that branches off to the left, you first hike along the Tre Cime di Lavaredo toll road to the nearby lake Antorno. Framed by high dolomites and dark trees, it offers an idyllic picture at 1,866 m above sea level.

A small path leads along the eastern shore of the lake to the northern shore of the secluded lake, where you follow the forest and meadow path that branches off to the right. A little later, near the tollbooth, hiking trail no . 119 branches off in the direction of forcella Rinbianco.

At first it climbs pleasantly through the woods and finally turns into a rocky gully, rich in boulders and gravel, through which it climbs somewhat more steeply. Behind it, rocky, stony and scree-covered mountain meadows, framed by high rock walls, extend, through which the trail climbs up to forcella Rinbianco. At 2,175 meters above sea level, an imposing view of the surrounding Tre cime di Lavaredo peaks with the Cima Grande, the Cima Piccola and the Monte Paterno unfolds.

On the forcella Rinbianco you take the hiking trail no. 117, which is surrounded by mighty rock faces and crosses the scree-rich, rugged terrain in a gentle ascent, opening up beautiful views of the rather unknown southern side of the world-famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Finally follows the somewhat trickier ascent over the rope-secured rock walls to the rifugio Fonda Savio mountain hut. Although it requires surefootedness and a head for heights, it should be quite easy to master for hikers who are used to hike in rugged alpine terrain.

After the small climbing tour on the rock, the idyllic Fonda Savio mountain hut at the foot of the Torre Wundt invites you to dine. In addition to the lovingly prepared traditional dishes, the temptingly fragrant homemade pastries also make connoisseurs' hearts beat faster.

From the Fonda Savio hut, hiking trail no. 115 leads along the rocky outcrops of the Cadini di Misurina down into the valley, opening up beautiful views of famous dolomite peaks such as the red-colored Croda Rossa, the historic Monte Piana or the striking picco di Vallandro peak.

Finally, it leads across larch slopes and sparse woods back to the hikers' parking lot.
