Hike from lago di Carezza lake to the Kaiserstein at the foot of Catinaccio
The Kaiserstein at the foot of the Catinaccio opens up a picturesque view that already captivated Empress Sisi. In addition to the lago di Carezza lake and the clearing where the Elisabeth monument is enthroned today, the massive panoramic rock below the Roda di Vael was one of the empress's favorite places in the Val d'Ega valley.
Route description Kaiserstein Catinaccio
The hike to the Kaiserstein begins at the large car park P1 located behind the guesthouse Simhild above the lago di Carezza lake.
Following path number 6 in the direction of the Elisabeth monument, the gently sloping path leads through woods and beautiful meadows, where dreamy views of the legendary rock faces of the Catinaccio open up.
A little later, on the right side of the trail, path no. 9A branches off in the direction of Passo del Vaiolon, which soon becomes hiking trail no. 9. It climbs gently to the Kaiserstein car park. Here the hiking sign no. 9B indicates the ascent to the now nearby Kaiserstein.
About 15 minutes later, you are at the foot of this massive Rock, to which a wooden ladder and a rope-secured passage lead.
A picturesque view unfolds at the top: The view sweeps from the nearby Roda di Vael over the jagged Latemar into the Val d'Ega valley and the mountain world towering behind it. A small wooden bench invites you to enjoy this dreamy idyll, which also enchanted Empress Sisi during her stay at lago di Carezza lake in 1897. The Rock was named in her honor.
The way back from the Kaiserstein follows the already familiar outward route.

If you want, you can start the hike directly at the car park or the bus stop Kaiserstein and shorten the ascent to 15 minutes.
The car park Kaiserstein is the starting point of numerous other hikes. For example, you can hike to the Baita Masare mountain hut or to the Paolina mountain hut, climb the scenic Roda di Vael hut or ascend the popular Hirzelsteig trail.
