The Valparola mountain hut in Val Badia valley promises unique moments of pleasure: In the rustic mountain hut near San Cassiano, cheese, bacon, bread, yogurt and curd cheese from own production are served. Last but not least, beautiful views of the surrounding Dolomites open up.
Directions to Valparola mountain hut (Munt de Valparola)
The hike to the Valparola mountain hut (Munt de Valparola) starts at the car park or bus stop Sciaré, which is located between San Cassiano and the Vaparola pass.
On the opposite side of the road, the wide hiking trail no. 24B branches off in the direction of Pralongia. With the imposing rock walls of the La Varella peak and the Conturines peak behind you, it leads almost flat through the tree-covered meadows.
After crossing the small creek Rü de Col dai Furns, follow the trail no. 18 that branches off to the left to the Valparola mountain hut (Munt de Valparola). It leads in a slight ascent to this idyllic mountain hut at the foot of the Valparola pass and the Setsas, where hikers can enjoy moments of pleasure in a cozy atmosphere. In addition to traditional plates, the menu at the Valparola mountain hut includes homemade bread, cheese, yogurt, bacon and curd cheese.
The way back from Valparola mountain hut (Munt de Valparola) is the same as the way there. If you want to extend the hike, you can also keep hiking trail no. 18 towards Armentarola at the previously mentioned fork. With a view of the Val Badia valley Dolomites, it leads through picturesque me adows to the Gran Ancëi Hotel.
Here the flat hiking trail no. 11 branches off in the direction of the Capanna Alpina mountain hut and leads back to the starting point.
Facts about the Valparola Pass and the Valparola mountain hut
The ladin word Valparola means "iron furnace"; the Munt de Valparola is therefore literally translated as the "iron furnace hut/alp". The name comes from the ironworks that lined the Valparola pass from the 14th to the 16th century. In them, iron ores were melted for later processing.
