Route description Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut Carbonin Winter
The winter hike to the Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut begins at the car park behind the hotel in Carbonin.
On the opposite side of the road, the rolled hiking trail no. 37 to the Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut takes its start. It winds its way in a pleasant ascent through the wintery snow-covered forest, opening up again and again beautiful views of the surrounding Dolomites, which include, for example, Monte Cristallo, the Cadini di Misurina or the reddish colored Croda Rossa. If you wish, you can shorten the ascent on the tracked paths that branch off from the wide path.
After about 450 meters of ascent, the forest clears, behind which the hike continues against the dreamy backdrop of the surrounding Dolomites through snow-covered alpine meadows to the Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut and the fortress towering next to it, already visible.
Finally, at an altitude of 2,040 m, the idyllically situated Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut tempts you to stop for a break. On the panoramic terrace and in the comfortably warm parlor, guests are served carefully prepared dishes, even in winter.
The way back from the Rifugio di Vallandro mountain hut is the same as on the way there. If you wish, you can extend the hike and, for example, climb up to the Monte Specie, which is rich in views, or continue hiking to the northern edge of the Prato Piazza.
