The winter hike around Lago di Braies lake starts at the historic hotel Lago di Braies lake, which can be reached by car or public bus.

From the traditional grand hotel, the well-trodden hiking trail no. 1 winds along the partly wooded western shore in front of the imposing backdrop of the Croda del Becco mountain (lit. peak in the shape of a beak).

After about 20 minutes of easy walking, you reach the southern shore, where you can look straight down on the now quite distant Grandhotel Lago di Braies and the towering mountains all around.

Against this dreamy backdrop, the hike continues along the eastern shore, which soon becomes somewhat rougher: closely nestled against the rock faces of the Small and Great Apostle, the path, which is partly secured with stairs and wooden railings, leads along the shore in a mostly gentle up and down, opening up picturesque views (caution: some passages can be slightly icy and therefore require good footwear).

Finally, you reach the much-photographed boathouse on the north shore of Lago di Braies lake; while nostalgic rowing boats line up here like a string of pearls in summer, the little house lies deserted in winter.
