Settsass circular hike

The Settesass circular hike leads through the picturesque landscape at the foot of the Settsass, opening up far-reaching views of the Dolomites towering all around.

Route description of the Settsass circular hike

The tour around Settsass starts at the 2,168 m high Valparola Pass, which is located just behind the South Tyrolean border in the province of Belluno.

Next to the hospitable rifugio passo Valparola mountain hut, the hiker's sign no. 24 points the way up to the Settsass.

The narrow trail, which runs gently up and down, first leads past the small Valparola lake and then makes its way through the landscape at the foot of the Settsass, which is partly covered with stones, boulders and rocks and partly with larches and grass. On the way there are beautiful views of the Val Badia valley and the surrounding mountains, such as the striking Sassongher peak, the wide Gardenacia, the massive Sass de Putia or the nearby Lagazuoi.

Finally, on the left side of the path, the ascent to the Settsass branches off. But we continue to keep the hiking trail no. 24 in the direction of Pralongia, from which finally the hiking trail no . 23, which runs close to the rock walls, branches off to Col di Lana.

Now facing the rougher southern side of the Settesass, it winds through the breathtaking landscape, partly interspersed with boulders, against the backdrop of the snow-white Marmolada and the historic Col di Lana.

At the Sief bivouac, the climb to Col di Lana branches off to the right. However, we continue along path no. 23, which now runs along the foot of the jagged rock walls of Le Pale de Gerda.

Finally, it climbs through a gully crossed by small rivulets to the Lago di Valparola lake, behind which you can finish the hike at the rifugio passo Valparola mountain hut.
