The hike to the lago Santo begins at the parking lot above the hamlet of Daunei near Selva di val Gardena.

Here you take the wide hiking trail no . 3. It climbs gently through the shady trees to the inviting Juac mountain hut and to the Ciaulonch lake behind it, in whose clear waters the surroundings are reflected.

From the small lake, the hike continues along hiking trail no. 1. It climbs gently to the popular rifugio Firenze mountain hut. In the midst of the flowery Cisles alpine pasture, against the backdrop of the graceful Geisler peaks, it invites you to take an enjoyable break.

Behind the rifugio Firenze mountain hut, hiking trail no. 4 leads in a gentle ascent to the nearby mountian station of the Col Raiser cable car, where the almost level trail no. 2 branches off in the direction of the Fermeda hut.

Shortly before the Fermeda hut, follow the gently sloping hiking trail no. 1A, which branches off to the left and shortly afterwards merges into the forest trail no. 42. Now the idyllic lago Santo lake and the Lech Sant moutain hut behind it are not far away. A little later, in the midst of the gently undulating alpine pasture, it invites you to dine against the backdrop of monte Pic, the Stevia massif and the Sella massif. Some of the dishes on the tempting menu are refined with homemade cow's, sheep's and goat's cheese .

From lago Santo lake you first walk back on the already known trail to the last fork, where this time you keep the hiking trail no. 42. It descends to the popular Gamsblut mountain hut, from which hiking trail no. 1A leads down to the Sangon hut. Already during the descent, the Juac mountain hut comes into view, to which a path that climbs steeply in the last section leads.

From the Juac mountain hut, return to the car park at Daunei on the already known path no. 3 .

The legendary origin of lago Santo lake

Once upon a time, a small chapel is said to have stood on the spot where today the secluded lago Sant lake stretches out. But when the shepherds celebrated many a merry parties during the warm summer nights and desecrated the holy ground with their boisterous dances, suddenly, as if from nowhere, a huge hole opened up in the ground, into which they disappeared along with the chapel. The hole, however, immediately filled with clear water and grew into the secluded lago Santo lake. Even today, eerie lights are said to glide over the lake on some nights, reminding us of the dissolute shepherds and their boisterous dances...
