Winter hike in Val Gardena
A 360° panoramic view of the Dolomites from Mount Resciesa
Between Val Gardena and Val di Funes valley rises the Mount Resciesa, whose summit is adorned with a large wooden cross and offers a spectacular 360° panoramic view. Thanks to the modern funicular the summit is easily accessible also in winter.
The Resciesa funicular can be reached from the center of Ortisei. Right next to the church, an asphalted road branches off to the left and leads to the town hall. From here, signs point the way towards the Mount Resciesa funicular, which can be reached after a ten-minute walk.
The funicular brings you comfortably up to over 2,000 m above sea level. Once reached the top, you can already enjoy a great view over the Val Gardena valley and the Dolomites: Mount Sassopiatto, Mount Sassolungo, Mount Sciliar and the Alpe di Siusi.
You start the winter hike following the trail no. 35 into the direction of the Resciesa alpine hut. After an easy 30-minute hike up you reach the idyllic mountain hut, which in summer is surrounded by colorful alpine flowers and welcomes guests on a sun terrace. In winter it is the perfect place to experience the warm atmosphere inside and enjoy lovely prepared regional dishes.
But before exploring the South Tyrolean cuisine, it is worth to follow the narrow path no. 10 for a few hundred meters more and reach the peak of the mountain, called Resciesa di Fuori. At 2,283 m above sea level, a breathtaking panoramic view over the Dolomites and the Val Gardena valley rewards you for your efforts.
